| If he is so smart why are they still losing money? |
|
My boss calls a meeting of his executive team and announces we are in the hole and sinking fast. He tasks us with finding a way to cut $65K out of our monthly operating budget without touching our labor force. Realizing the cost of our materials and supplies, I explain to him it is an impossible scenario. He snaps, "Do it!"
I am labeled a "nay-sayer" by my fellow team members.
Every night for the next week-and-a-half, we stay late in an effort to find a way to accomplish this impossible task. Within 10 days we cut out $29K. "You're $36K short!" he growls. "Keep working!"
The controller confides to me all the company really needs to cut is about $35-40K to stay afloat.
We spend every night and all day Saturday and Sunday working at cutting out more. No one can find another dollar to scrap.
They begin to believe I was right in the first place.
I come up with a plan to lower salaries and cut some hours of our administrators which would save an additional $10K. He rejects my plan, announces he has the solution and lays me and one other employee off.
I do the math. He cut $9K by letting us go. But now he has no maintenance man and no HR. With my plan, he could have kept both of us and cut $10K out of the monthly budget.
So if he is so smart, why are they still losing money?
He recently had another meeting of the management team. He told them if they didn't find a way to cut an additional $22K out of the monthly budget he might have to let them all go and close the doors.
One of the executives said it might be an impossible task to cut anymore. (Sound familiar?) The boss said he had another plan that might help them cut $8-10K out of the monthly budget that "someone" suggested. (Gee, I wonder who?)
So now my stupid boss is going to activate the plan I developed for him -- after he rejected it and let me go!
