Just plain stupid

My boss keeps me in a "box" doing menial shit that I'm overqualified to do ... in spite of glowing performance reviews, my winning awards for the agency, and continually going "above and beyond." He also hoards information; no one on the team ever knows where he is (he never even shows up until 10 a.m.), what he's doing, or what he is taking away from meetings that we should know about. I don't know if he is threatened by me/us, or just an idiot, or both! I'm totally fed up!!

If you are able to do all the things you mentioned (winning awards, going above and beyond) while being kept in a box by a restrictive manager then I can guarantee you your boss is horribly insecure and trying desperately to control you.

Now, if he were a wise man (read:secure with himself) he would:

(a) stroke you privately and publicly to make you feel good, get you the acknowledgement you want and strengthen your loyalty to him,

(b) ask you to train fellow employees in how you do it so ALL of his team could be winners,

(c) use you as the standard and example he wants all of them to follow,

(d) get you raises and perks so you would be happy and not even consider leaving.

Doesn't it make sense to groom and stroke your racehorse so they will run faster for you?

But that is if he were a wise man -- which obviously he is not. The opposite of wise is foolish, and that sounds like your boss.

Imagine this question in a managerial interview: "You have two employees working for you. One is outstanding in performance and the other is struggling to meet the basic expectations. Do you treat them both the same or do you handle them differently? If you elect to handle them differently, tell me how how you would handle each one?"

If they don't know how to train and encourage the weaker one and stroke and praise the stronger one the interview needs to terminate immediately!

My manager does not cc me on emails pertaining to my work. When I ask for those emails, this manager talks about something else and not even addressing my question. On the other hand I am supposed to cc this manager on everything I do.
